Laser vein therapy: what to expect

After you have completed a thorough consultation, your laser vein therapy treatment will be set up at your earliest convenience. During the treatment, a hand-held laser device will be used to target unwanted veins. The hand piece is equipped with a cooling tip to make the procedure more comfortable. The laser projects heated energy, which will cause the vein walls to collapse and shrink. The veins will then be naturally absorbed within the body after a few weeks. Treatment time various but commonly takes 30 – 60 minutes to complete

Your recovery and treatment time will be dependent on the amount of veins treated, whether the veins are tiny spider veins or large blue ones, and the area being treated. Be sure to speak with your skin care professional about the expected healing process, time, and after care treatment for your specific condition.

Typically, there is little to no discomfort during the XEO laser vein treatment. However, redness and swelling may occur but should subside within a few weeks. Optimal results will be visible within 2 – 6 weeks of treatment. However, larger blue veins can take up to 12 weeks to disappear. Some patients (especially with a minor amount of veins) may only need 1 – 2 treatments, but multiple treatments may be required for optimal results.
