A Full Facelift vs. a Mini Facelift:
While a full facelift is aimed at tightening sagging muscles under the skin and thus minimizing jowls and neck laxity, a mini facelift targets specific areas on the face around the cheek and jaw in patients without much neck laxity. A mini facelift is generally used for patients that show early signs of aging or those who have had a full facelift earlier and is less invasive than a traditional facelift. In a full facelift, sagging muscles are tightened but in a minilift, only skin is tightened. Both are done in the Salisbury Plastic Surgery under a light general or under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. The effects of a mini facelift last up to 5 years depending on the lifestyle and aging of the patient, while the general facelift effects are much longer.
During a Traditional Facelift Procedure:
The Natural A to V Facelift is performed at the accredited Worcester Surgery Center under a light general or under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. With carefully-placed incisions behind the ear and around the hairline, the underlying muscles are tightened to create long-term results. Frequently, microfat grafts are used to add lost volume to a face. The skin is repositioned and re-draped tighter for a smooth, natural appearance. Facelift surgery typically takes around 3 hours to complete, more if eyelids or a brow lift are also performed.
Facelift recovery and results
After a facelift, a dressing will be placed over the surgical site and it will be replaced during the next day, the drain will be removed and the patient will be given an Oxymist® facial treatment. It’s normal to experience minimal discomfort, which can be alleviated by icing and elevating the head. Swelling and bruising are also common after surgery and may last up to two weeks. After about two weeks, most patients may return to work and workouts, unless they have other reasons to avoid strenuous activity.
After about 3 weeks, patients are able to notice the dramatic and natural results of the surgery but the final improvement will not be realized before 4 to 6 months after surgery. Although facelifts provide long-term benefits, just like any other surgical procedure, their impact is not everlasting since the face will continue to naturally age. However, a patient will still appear younger than he or she would have if he or she had never had the surgery.
